640mb vid card?

nope..... it's a card for doing professional 3D opengl modeling and stuff like that, royally sucks @$$ at gaming and most likely wouldn't even have good directx capabilities.....

Edit: WOW..... looked at 3dlabs website and the thing supports PS3.0, still a rip if it underperforms a 6800Ultra..... (a rip for gaming, of course; the thing is a godsend if you're into the 3D modeling thing)

Looks like a workstation card to me. Some guys at Pixar, or something, are sure to have some.

im sure one of you dorks is using it :). so whats the deal with it? is this the best vid card on the market or what?
Actually no...

Hardly anyone here is using them. You'd would be a dork to use them because they are not meant for gaming. They will give you the worst possible performance in gaming you can imagine simply because they are not designed for it.

Same deal with FireGL and Quadro cards... Not for gaming.

Not from what I've seen. FireGL cards as well as Quadros are just Radeons or GeForces with unmasked features. They can still use the same drivers, and therefore feature performance that is roughly comparable.

Actually the Quadro cards game quite well, however, you would still be stupid to get one for gaming as for less than the price of a quadro, you can get a SLi setup and more. From what I've read though, the 3Dlabs cards are absolutely horrendous for gaming.

This is a great example of the MORE RAM = BETTER CARD myth.
It seems like every time I go into bestbuy or compusa, I overhear some kid talking about how its stupid to pay for a 128mb 6800 when a 256mb 5200 costs $100 less and is more powerful because it has more ram.

yeah ud be stupid to buy it for gaming

but thats not what its designed for at all, its a 3d modelling card, so don't compare it to cards that are designed for gaming

That was my impression of these as well. I'd really like to see these wildcats in their element. out in the wild, or is that too corny?

Wow... Its long. Really long... Really tall... But the price? $2185.00?
You could buy two new computers for that :p

Wrong! It's not a gaming card at all goddamit. The core design is angled towards workstations, not increasing your e-penis. Sure it has a shitload of memory and vertex shaders, but they're not designed with gaming efficiency in mind at all, at it's core architectural design this product simply would not run games well. It's like purchasing the most expensive Pentium 8xx you can find and assuming that it will beat an FX-57 in all your games.

What he said. Besides, the Quadro FX 4500 gives me a 45% larger e-penis and 72% more bragging rights according to independent benchmarks.

the 3dlabs are not worth it for most workstation apps...

for instance, 3dstudio does not need much texture memory at all... just fast geometry processing...

Quadros are killer for 3dsMAX.

I have used a wildcat card in various configurations... and now the quadros beat the pants off them in MAX. Nvidia has done a good job with their Maxtreme driver.

Probably about the same number of people who overclock their SLIed 7800GTX's and Fx57 into oblivion just to get higher 3DMark2005 scores.

I only heard of these cards once befor and I'm pretty sure they suck. If you look up the specs they are just a little under the 6800 ultra(if I remember right) and for that price its a rip.

The architecture is not mean for games. It's made for rendering in 3d apps like CAD, digital art, or video editing.

They are great cards but very specialized in their field...and will PWN a 6800 in those situations.

you just need to make the games look like a cad program so the card will run it well ...

# Industry’s only isochronous command channel with fast context switching and automatic hardware scheduling to insure “glitch-free” effects with real-time video.

what exactly is a glitch free effect? How's that difference compares to ATI X1800 or Nvidia 7800 for real time video?

No game related driver optimizations, any application specific "optimizations" are done without sacrificing one drop of IQ.. IQ is not really the correct phrase.. Hmmm... Ahh.. The card draws the screen exactly as the program/programmers intended.. What the architect or artists puts in, is what is displayed, exactly..Very important at the cad and graphical workstation level, not so much so at the everyday user level..

Probably no "optimized" trilinear filtering.

Card is optimized for 3d modeling. It's crap in gaming and wouldn't stand a chance.
No, it's much faster than a gaming card and with more features.
