640ht backwards compatible?

hi,
does anyone know if a pentium 640 hyperthreading would still work (without the hyperthreading bit) if I put it on a motherboard that doesn't support hyperthreading? I was gonna replace a pentium 4 2.66 GHZ with the 640 ht and hope that it would just run like a 3.2 GHZ chip, would this work or am i just optomistic?

Is the board you're going to pop it into a socket 775? From what I know, I'm unaware of any S775 boards that don't support HT. Oldest chipsets for S775 are like the 865G/P/PE, 875P, and maybe the SIS661. But that system you're upgrading might even be an older Socket 478.
 
it depends. Is that 2.66ghz cpu a pentium 4 506, or an old 2.66ghz northwood? If it's an old northwood (which is probably the case) then no, it won't work. But in the event that you do have one of those oddball non-HT lga775 p4's (the 506, in this case) then it should work. We need more info.
 
that or if you've already got your computer open, look at your processor socket. If there are pins stickin up from it, then you've got an LGA775 board = compatible. if there are a bunch of holes, then it's not gonna work. LGA775 =/= S478. Never seen an LGA775 board not support H/T though.
