I am thinking about getting a 64 Bit Athlon for my main rig and turning my current PC into a media PC. Anyway if I was to go 64 would there be any advantage for folding? Do they make a 64 bit client? Or would linux be able to run F@H in 65 bits reguardless?
 
No 64 bit client, can't speak to Linux. A A64 running at 2 gig core speed Folds around the same speed as a AthXP 2.4 gig CPU last time I tested it. I could be wrong, but I doubt Stanford is hard at work on a 64 bit client, wide acceptance is still a bit down the road. However Microsoft and AMD keep posting claims about how they see speed improvements running 32 bit apps under Win64 beta. So there might be some minor advantages once everything gets released. Of course one could also argue if you wait till then to upgrade stuff will probably be a little cheaper on the 64 bit platforms. But if you are considering upgrading platforms anyway I would give the A64 a serious look. I have no complaints on how mine perform.
 
Is the sourse avaliable for linux anywhere as my friend has spoeken to me about making sure the linux kernal is compiled for 64 bits but Im none the wiser im still new to linux, if the souse was avliable then could you compile it for 64?
