I think windows is mainly targeting amd consumers now due to the 64 bit processor anyone else think this and will there be any 64 bit processors in the northwood p4 coming out or something :( I jus tgot a new comp and I hate this drastic changes that now have just come out.

well first off the northwood is a dead core line. The Presscott replaced the northwood in the beginning of the year and are now the core cpu for the new 775lga package. As for 64bit OS I wouldnt worry about it to much. The earliest Windows XP 64 bit edition will come out is at the end of the year. However....its probably gonna be buggy as all hell and will probably tack on 6-12months before its actually worth the 400+ dollars for it.

So to make a long story short dont sweat your current consumer decision to much  as far as the longevity of your parts go, 64bit technology wont play a huge part in being the determining factor for why your pc will be become outdated when it does :p

^second. windows xp 64bit was originally planned to be released sometime early this year, but now it looks like end of 2004/early 2005. of course there will need to be other drivers optimized for a 64bit os as well. by the time 64bit os's are fairly usable your system will probably be outdated (and some of the current 64bit processor systems as well) for other reasons.

I'll probably wait until the 64 bit windows is stable and cheap before I upgrade my system totally to use it, because it could be a while before the new Windows is 'usuable' ;)
