If I were to install Windows XP Pro 64 bit on my Alienware m9700 notebook, would I be able to use more RAM than I use now? At least 4gb? Currently I have 2gb DDR PC3200 and AW's Tech support claims it can use up to 2.5gb.

I know that on desktops using a 64bit OS gets you over the 4gb hump, and I just don't know if it would work the same for me.

Yup, if it gets desktops over the hump it'll get a laptop over the hump.
OS's don't give two shits whether you have a laptop or not.

I looked around online today and I can't seem to find any kits or single sticks of PC3200 DDR laptop memory that are greater than 1gb per stick. Do the older PC3200 laptop sticks stop at 1gb?

You don't want XP 64. If you want x64, Vista all the way. Much better driver and 32 bit app support.

you will not be able to use any more then 2.5gb of ram on the m9700 platform because of the limitations of the mother board, it may recognize 4gb, but will not be able to actually use it.
