64 Bit OS on 32 Bit system

I got asked today what would happen if I installed Windows Server 2003 x64 on a 32 bit server. I have been unable to really find an answer from googling it so I figured I would ask here. My first assumption would be that it wouldn’t work due to obvious compatibility issues but I can't say for sure. Anyone here actually tried it before? :)

Without a 64-bit processor, the OS installation should fail at the onset due to the hardware not meeting the minimum requirements. (This is what happens with Vista, based on my test consisting of one attempt.)
 
Yes, Your CPU will need to have support for a 64bit OS.

Computer with a supported processor: AMD Athlon 64, AMD Opteron, Intel Xeon with Intel EM64T support, Intel Pentium 4 with Intel EM64T support

If you're not sure if a specific CPU will support a 64bit OS, then you can download intel's CPU ID utility if you have an intel CPU: (http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=1881&DwnldID=7838)

Yea it should come up with some error saying it does not meet the minimum requirements.
 
The O/S LDR is in fact 32 bit. And it will detect your CPU can't go into 64 bit mode, and pop a message.
