So now that leopard is 64 bit, where's 64 bit iTunes for vista x64? Or is this problem on Microsoft's side.

I don't have a Windows x64 machine, but is there a problem with 32-bit iTunes running in 64-bit Windows? Not saying it's ideal - cos it ain't - but does it not work at all?

>no 64bit itunes for you!
:(

Writing for Windows x64 is probably a different can of worms and takes extra time, hence the delay. I should note that Leopard is 64-bit but doesn't have that problem because of the way it scales: it's designed to allow both 32-bit and 64-bit code at once, although for obvious reasons you can't have 32-bit apps that are directly linked to a 64-bit app (or vice versa).

vista 64 also allows 32 bit ang 64 bit code at once. look in the task manager, anything with a *32 is 32 bit, anything unlabeled is 64.

The problem with running iTunes on Vista 64 in 32 bit mode has to do with driver signing. Since Vista64 requires signed drivers, and iTunes is 32bit, you won't get a 32 driver signed for 64bit. iTunes installs two services and two drivers. One of the drivers is used for CD ripping and burning. The iPhone also requires a driver for authentication. Until Apple releases an actual 64 bit version of iTunes with these drivers, we are out of luck for both phone and burning iTunes music content.

Oh, that sucks big-time. Man. Seems like a pretty big miss on Apple's part; wonder what they're release schedule looks like for x64 iTunes. Wow...

I still don't get why Apple had to include a cd ripping / burning driver when the built-in XP/vista subsystem is perfectly fine.

Yeah I hope Apple releases a x64 version of iTunes soon. As of now, I have it running in VMware with WinXP loaded. It actually runs well, I even successfully jailbroke my touch in that. The only downside is VMware won't see any of my drives so I had to move my music over to my usb hdd.

64-bit would be great, but a way to make the 32-bit version not run like molasses in pinhole colander would be equally awesome.

Apple will take their sweet time I am sure.

Why make the program work on 64bit windows...cause if it doesn't work they can tell the "public" how 64bit windows is broken and leopard 64bit is so awesome :p

I've read posts from people on the Net saying they're using VMWare Player running 32-bit WinXP SP2 and running iTunes in that vm in order to get around the problem. Not the ideal solution, to be sure, but at least it's something.
