I see a lot of nice overclocks off of the 6300 with standard motherboards (mainly the Gigabyte 965) but has anyone had any luck with a micro board?

I am looking to put together a Q-Xpack case and wanted to use the Gigabyte 945 micro board with the 6300 processor. I know I may not hit the extremes like Kyle but I like to have fun in the attempts. I try to get as much as I can without increasing the voltage. The memory would probably be G. Skill DDR2 667 (2x1GB)

I have some experience with overclocking but I dont consider myself an expert. I played around with my Opty, Xp-M, and P4 Northwood before.

So any ideas here on the 6300 with a micro or is oc'n a micro not that common?

If you're considering the GA-945GM-s2, then read this first.
Thank you for supporting GIGABYTE products and contacting GBT Tech Support. As to the problem you mentioned, with the hardware specification, this model does not support overclock features. All the options that the M/B supports already listed in the BIOS setting.

If you're really industrious, then you could try to put an atx board in the x q pack.

Most MATX boards have little in the way of overclocking options, but a few are good, but there isn't much selection yet for C2D, so a good C2D matx for oc'ing might not exist yet.

Thank you for the reply.

I like the microfly case. It looks slightly larger but having the ability to use a standard power supply, extra slots, and an extra bay will be worth it.

I wish there were more selections for boards. I really only have a few requirements but the big one that seems to narrow it down is a Gigabit NIC. You choose that and a micro board and you are left with 1 or 2 options. Thanks again for those articles.

intel G965 shipsets should be hitting the market within the next two weeks. The only two available conroe mATX board are from gigabyte, the 945GZ and 945G, both of which do not have a single overclocking option. Gotta wait a little bit more...
