630 vs 3200+ vs 540

go with a P4 if you arent a hardcore gamer. I upgraded from northwood 3.0 asus P4C800 DLX combo to an an a64 3500+ asus NF4 SLI combo, and it is very noticeable to me that in normal everyday usage, the P4 is faster.

Hyperthreading makes your PC a whole lot more usable if you do more than one thing at once. like for instance when I rip or encode a dvd, I can do other things like browse the web. with an a64, it's so laggy that its pointless. little things like that add up, and once you get used to the smoothness of hyperthreading, its hard to go back.

my coworker has an even faster cpu than me (fx-53) and he is going back to intel because he misses the better multitasking capabilities of a P4.

Hey guys so which of these CPU do you think it is the best all rounder?

P4 540 3.2Ghz HT LGA775
P4 630 3.0Ghz HT LGA 775
AMD64 3200+ Socket 939

So which of these CPU will be on top and which one is the best to build a new computer with?
Well, best for what you Primarly want to do the 540. Good for Office, Ok for gaming. But a smooth running machine. Downside: no Access to 64bit without another Hardware upgrade.
If you know you will transition to 64bit when you work programs do. . . hmm thats a little tougher, the P4 will be smoother for office appilications. But the A64 would be a great choice as the cost would be lower and it would also do a great job.

Cost wise: a64 otherwise 540

If you can cough up a little more cash I would go with the P4 640 3.2GHz, if not then the P4 630 3.0GHz.

Building future proof computer is BS, it is just a waste of money, i would rather have one that perform awesome now and for the next year.
future proofing fell through for us 939 users with non pci e boards

i couldnt believe how bad my pc slowed down simply due to me moving the location of a 3 GB folder.

I just started OCing my 630, I can get it to 240fsb for benching at 1.25vcore! (auto), and i use 235 for everyday use, imagine what would happen if i had the real vcore on this matx mobo.
