I was having some problems with XP one of which was a low refresh rate that wouldnt change at all even if i changed it in the display settings. So I reinstalled XP and I still get the same problem, I know my monitor can display 85hz because My Linux partition does it fine. But even after reinstalling it's stuck at 60hz. I installed the Latest Catalyst Drivers(at the top of this forum) and I get the same problem. I installed my monitors driver and I get the same problem. What could be causing this and how do I fix it?

grr, what kind of imbecile makes the default max refresh rate 60 in the catalyst drivers  I just fixed that and now its working fine :) Is it dangerous/worth it to make the max refresh rate a little higher than what my monitor says it can do?

No it isn't dangerous, but it could put more wear and tear than necessary on your monitor. I say around 10 fps higher should be fine, I've ran it before without problems, but long term is what I'm talking about, if you don't mind replacing monitors within 6 months I'd say try it out and see.

WinXP's refresh rate handling is all screwed up. You're still probably only getting 60hz in games. You should grab a copy of RefreshForce and use it to set your refresh rates to your monitor's maximums.

A lot of monitors won't display an image if you set the refresh rate higher than it's rated to do. There also isnt much of an advantage to it unless you're stuck at 60hz.
