I have a Viewsonic VX922 with a default refresh rate of 60Hz. I can change it to 75Hz if I want, hopefully without damaging the monitor. I am a gamer. I was wondering if there would be a performance increase by using the 75Hz setting or should I leave it at 60Hz. It is currently running at 75Hz with no grapghical corruption whatsoever. Also could I ruin my monitor at this setting.

For gaming, the monitor's refresh rate only matters if you are running your games with VSYNC on. If you are, then the games will try to run at whatever FPS that the the refresh rate is set on. IE, you will get 60 fps in the game at 60hz and 75fps in the game at 75hz (if youre system can handle that many fps for the game).

And no, running 75hz will not ruin your monitor.

I run at 75hz with vsync on (Viwesonic VX912) and it's been fine.

I honestly don't know if it really makes a difference in what I'm seeing, some people say that LCDs (while accepting a 75hz input) will still output at 60hz anyway.

So I wonder if it wouldn't be better to run at 60fps and increasing the graphics settings a bit.
