$600 PS3 only has composite Cable :(

It's a common misconception that digital signals can't be corrupted and make cable quality irrelevant. A bad digital cable can introduce jitter and bit errors.
 
I didn't say you should regret your purchase, it's up to you to do with your money what you will. All I'm saying is that logically speaking, if the original cable wasn't damaged in some way, all you're paying for is placebo effect with Monster Cables. And even if the analog Monster Cables were that much higher quality, you should see the kind of discount retail associates who work at Best Buy / Circuit City get on them...it's outrageous, just like the markup.

Honestly, the PS3 not coming with an HDMI cable is really not that big of a deal. I would have been pissed if the 360 hadn't come with HD cables, because those are pricey, and theres really no discount to be had.

An HDMI cable can be easily obtained, as previously stated, from monoprice for around 7-10 dollars plus shipping.

And seriously, monster cables are a huge ripoff. Half of the info they feed you when you work at retail is BS designed to fool unwitting customers into spending hundreds more on the purchases they make, because the mark up is so high. The cables are definitely made of high grade materials, but really, digital is digital. Unless theres a problem in the cable, its all the same.
 
The lack of an HDMI cable doesn't bother me much - I can buy those cheaply. The lack of component cables is absolutely shocking - because I'm forced into buying overpriced ones from Sony, or potentially dodgy ones from third party vendors. It's not as if it would have cost them that much more to include them with the $600 variant.
 
Does anybody know what percentage of TV's out there even have component inputs? I would bet most people's TV's don't. By including composite cables, they're ensuring that the largest number of people can use it right out of the box. Besides, what's $20 on component cables after you've already spent $600 on the system?

The problem is, Sony's obviously marketing at the "high-end early adopter" crowd with the $500/$600 pricing. This part of the market is probably more likely to have component inputs on their TVs than the general market. I mean, what percentage of TVs out there even cost $500?

And, besides, this isn't an either/or, so it's a little dishonest to frame the question like that. They could have packed in a cable with both on it, ala the Xbox 360 Premium, or packed in two cables - one component and one composite.
 
The thing is as a high end user i want the best cables gold plated, oxygen free, whatever etc etc, Its like buying the top of the range home theater a few years ago, you wouldnt use the shitty scart lead that comes with them, you get a bloody good one off the net. I dont expect Sony to provide any signal cable whatsoever, At least you dont have/forced to buy the Official HDMI PS3 cable. Ill buy the HDMI cable (make/length) i want to buy.
 
They won't ship it with HDMI because the vast majority of their adopters probably won't have any use for it.

If Sony's ps3 doesn't come out with at LEAST component, then why the hell were they talking about how HD is the future and whatnot? I loved Sony, but their arrogance these days have left a bad taste in my mouth (and, apparently, smoke and flames in people's laptops).
That's as absurd as saying the Wii shipping with pre-packaged an HDMI cable!

Only 400,000 available at launch, $600 price tag, Resistance the ONLY decent launch game, questionable cell processor intergity , no apparent edge over 360 graphics, and NO HD cable? Even Shigeru Miyamoto would cuss you out, Sony, and he's the happiest guy in the world!
