Alright, my girlfriend is looking for a new laptop. $600-800 price range. I'm a desktop man, but know you guys know what's up. She doesn't game on it, it'd just be for school etc, but I want the most durable, longest battery life, and best built so I don't hafta fix it, I'm busy enough as is. So if you guys could mac some suggestion my way, I'd be grateful. Thanks.

$6-800 new?? If so recommendations aren't going to be very helpfull, you'll only be able to find the heaviest, slowest, worst battery life computers...

That's true, like my Desknote. I suggest looking into used or refurb. Some of the Inspiron 1100s are around that price range.

find her a cheap dell...they always advertise for having "laptops starting at 749", or get her a Pentium III laptop, they have decent battery life

wow, ok. so then refurb whats good. i'm just looking for some pendable brands or an idea. even up to $900?

i knew there was a reason i hated laptops haha

Or to save some money on that iBook you can get one at Macmall for $699, except it only has 128 megs of memory and no DVD ROM.

Check out compusa or best buy. While they are by no means the best in terms of performance, with rebates you can sometimes get them down into the $600 range.

I've seen this Averatec laptop at best buy for $700-750 after rebates. It gets pretty good reviews.

Otherwise, try to find a used thinkpad on ebay. Thinkpads seem to last forever.
