Gadgets need power, hard to pass up 60 AA batteries for $10 Saw these at Home Depot and grabbed x2, they're surprisingly compact packages, passed by them at first. 4"x3" plastic cube double-stacked & taped together (so it's not even possible to get a single 30 pack).
I usually buy Rayovac's anyways (vs. Energizers/Duracell) when I need bulk AA/AAAs, they seem to have the same energy capacity.
Generally rechargeable NiMh / LiPo batts are the way to go, but for small throwaway & forget (ex: mp3 player, small remotes, digital cam, walkie-talkie rads) it's hard to beat the $$$/EnergyDensity-ratio of cheap bulk alkaline batteries.
