Hey everyone
I figured I would drop this question here in the PSU section.
I have noticed that Video Cards ship with a 4 pin MOLEX connector that terminates into a 6 pin Video card connector.
Here is my dilema and I don't know why the item is configured the way it is. There are 2 black wires, 2 yellow wires, and 2 Brown wires split across the yellow??? 1 of the pins on the 6 pin connector (center pin) is open/empty and it is on the yellow "power side". Here is a reference picture.

OKAY
Now I bought a new power supply that says in the manual "plug the 6 pin PCIe power connector into the video card". This 12V line comes right out of the back of the PSU.
No problem, but i noticed that this connector has 3 yellow wires across the top (assuming all power) and three black across the bottom. But the connector that came with the video card doesn't look like this and has the open middle position and brown wires.
Why do manufacturers do this? Why does the power supply 6 pin connector differ from the 6 pin connector provided to me by the video card manufacturer?
Will I burn out my video card if I plug the one from my PSU into the back of my video card.
I have the MSI 8600GTS. Everything is new in my case and I just don't want to fry anything!!!
