6 Degree gap between cores?

I'm OCing my Q6600 to 3.6GHz, and when I run Prime95 25.4 (Small FFTs) I get these temps with Core Temp 0.96.1:
Core #0: 68C
Core #1: 62C
Core #2: 62C
Core #3: 68C

I'm using the Cooler Master Hyper 212 with AS5. I'm applying a line down the middle like the instructions. When I was using the stock fan the cores were off by 1 or 2C but this is just ridiculous.

My first guess is that because this thing is so damn heavy, that when it is sideways it pulls down a bit. Therefore bending the heatsink just slightly so the first 2 cores don't get a strong connection.

Is this a common problem when people use huge heat sinks? Would it help if I reinstalled it and tried to tighten the screws even more? I was thinking of using some pliers but I dont' want to break anything...

Please feel free to give any general tips or advice to get all my cores down to 62C (if that's even possible).

Thanks!

pretty common in general to have up to a 10C range between the cores from everything ive read. on my e8400 one core idles at 51 and the other at 42. id say it's nothing to worry about. you could try remounting if you really wanted, but i doubt it makes much of a difference

My quad is the same way.....nothing to worry about as long as your temps are in range....
A variation like that is normal.

As other have said, it's nothing to lose sleep over . . . fairly common.

Could also mean that your HSF's base and the CPU's IHS aren't making great contact not due to the weight of the HSF but because the two surfaces don't match.

I have been using a TRUE 120 - which supposedly comes from the factory with a convex base to match most Intel chips that leave the factory with a concave base. I first had my non-lapped TRUE 120 on a lapped q6600 and had about a 6-8* gap in temps like yours. Then I lapped the TRUE 120 and the gap narrowed down to about 2-3* between all the cores.

Recently tried a new q6600 (not lapped) with my now already lapped TRUE 120 and now have a 6* gap again. Fairly sure that if I keep this new q6600 and lap it, it'll reduce the gap in temps.

Just has to do with how well your HSF and CPU's IHS match up I think.

edit: what I'd be more worried about if I were you is getting a "better" HSF because you can definitely do better than 68* under load on a q6600 (hopefully G0). My lapped q6600 hit a high of 58* and newer, non-lapped q6600 tops out at 54* with the lapped TRUE 120.

Kinda surprises me that your 0+3 and 1+2 are the same, since it's my 0+1 and 2+3.. but the variation is within normal limits, yes.

My Q6600 is also the same. My temps vary: 35*C - 28*C. I've seen this in many forums and it seems to be a very common trait.
