What does the -5v rail power on the motherboard? my power supply tester shows all voltages but the -5v so my rig wont power up damn BFG psu

The -5v was for ISA and some onboard audio. It was eliminated from the ATX12v specification years ago.

Yeah... if you have all voltages but no -5V, then the PSU is probably fine. If you're motherboard isn't powering up with that PSU, try the less obvious: bad power button or lead going to the motherboard's two pins? Motherboard grounded out on an extra stand off? Another defective component (bad card, bad RAM, etc) shorting out the board?

Best thing to do is a barebones test with just the PSU, mobo, CPU, nothing else, no RAM, graphics card, etc. and outside of the case. Use something conductive (tip of screwdriver, etc.) to touch the power on pins on the motherboard to turn on the assembly.
