5k to spend

is radeon better then nvidia? and i think u guys are right. i might just get the 256 7800gtx, that probably can support all the games right now. i might just get 2 gig of ram and 2x 75 gb raptors. but im still confused about intel and amd. my friend said intel is comin out wit the new one and it will be much better then amd.

Radeon better then Nvidia is like asking if ferarri is better then lambourgini (that's my opinion). The 7800 GTX 512 is the top of the line card at the moment though as everyone is saying is hard to get. I personally like ATI.

Correct me if I am wrong but AMD is more geared for gaming and Intel is geared towards video editing/creating, animation, and stuff like that. Mind you the FX series seems to do a better job then the high end Intels in those tasks. Again correct me if I am wrong.

Both companies are coming out with new things all the time. As everyone has said: It is probably a wise idea not to go extreme high end since you will be losing money immediately when waiting for the parts.

I imagine the new CPU's that intel has comming out will be fairly expensive when they do arrive. Same thing for the new AMDs. As someone stated that the AMD M2's will not benefit as much in performace with DDR2, I reckon that an FX-57 would be a wise choice depending on the price difference between it and the FX-60 dual core. As for the new intels, you'd have to wait and see, but again investing in them given the high price might not be a wise idea.

Build yourself a high end, but decent costing system and leave yourself some money for possible future upgrades.

You are likely going to be better off with a single Raptor 150, compared to two Raptor 74's. With 5K, i would build a Fileserver and a Gaming machine... I need more storage space.
