59Hz vs. 60Hz

Is there meaningful difference between the 59hz and 60hz settings for a my LCD monitor?
The Nvidia display driver defaults to 59Hz. Also games seem to default to it sometimes. I can always choose 60Hz if I want, but what's the difference?
 
The difference is 1hz.;) Your eyes won't be able to tell any difference because the "refresh rate" on an lcd doesn't work the same way as crt's...there isn't really a "refresh" going on.
 
My guess would be it is there for NTSC compatibility. NTSC isn't actually 60i, it is 59.94i. No, really, not kidding it is that precise and that odd. As far as I can tell, Vista added support for it for media centre type PCs.

For a desktop PC connected to an LCD, I doubt it makes any difference. I recall in the nVidia driver notes that they said that currently their drivers treat the 59Hz requests as 60Hz in actuality.

For desktop LCDs, just run them at 60Hz unless you have a compelling reason not to. If you don't know what one of those reasons might be, well then you don't have one :D .
