Alright gents. I've done as much reading as I can stand without finding any relevent answers, so I'm turning to you guys.

I've got a brand new Gigabyte 5970 running in my machine. I was looking into overclocking it, and after looking some OC'ing software, I noticed something strange.

While the first GPU is running at it's stock speeds, the second is running at 156MHz, with the memory at 300. Now, if I'm not mistaken, these are both supposed to be running at 725/1000.

I also noticed that I was unable to get Furmark to read the second GPU's temp. I believe I read about this being an issue, but am not sure if that's correct or not. I also noticed that Afterburner is reporting the second GPU as being nearly inactive. Mind you, this is after Furmark had been warming up for some time.

Frankly, I'm confused. Any help would be great.

If the software doesnt make use of dual gpus, thats why the first gpu is using normal clocks and the second 2d clocks. The second one doesnt know what to do, so it's downclocking itself...

That's what I thought. At the same time, I also thought Furmark was capable of burning dual GPU's. I looked for an option to enable dual burning, but couldn't find one.

Here's a screenshot for a tutorial I found on the same card/software. Looks like it reads dual's just fine...

Thoughts?

when the 2 card have nothing to do, it downclocks a lot.
saving power feature.

sounds to me like its a driver issue more then anything.. you could always try the gpu stress test on OCCT.. its basically the same thing and see if it works on both gpu's..

which CCC drivers are you using?

You sir, are a Genius!

I was using 9.12. I downloaded OCCT and booted it up, and upon loading it informed me that DX was out of date. A quick update later, and guess what? Furmark is now reporting dual GPUs.

Furthermore, CPU-Z and Afterburner are also showing the correct core/memory speeds in both GPUs.

Now the fix I was expecting, but if it works, I'm not going to complain!

Thanks guys. This is why I love [H]! :D

all that matters is that its working now.. so thats good to see..

Actually when you're in windowed mode only 2d clocks are on and the 2nd gpu is disabled. Only fullscreen enables the 2nd gpu.

Something I noticed with the screens mate....you temps are nearly 100 degrees....Is this normal. And your fan speed is nearly 100%....????

With my card running at 5870 speeds the fan NEVER goes above 50% and the temps stay at 88 degrees MAX after stability testing for long time.....Is it the norm for cards to get that hot...so I know?

Actually....dismiss my post as you do have a HEFTY overclock...but what is the highest safe temps these cards hit.

those werent his temps.. they were from a screen shot for a tutorial/how to for getting the 5970 to work in furmark..
