5970 flickering in single display mode!?

5970 10.1 + HF ( tried 10.1 too)

In Far Cry 2 and Dirt 2, it flickers as if its zooming back and forth from a big window to a slight smaller one. funny thing is, if I alt-enter (full screen but windowed mode), it works fine.

anyone have any idea whats going on?

it works fine in eyefinity!

this is the monitor that is connected via native display port (no adapter). could this be the problem? very strange

I have the exact same problem, connecting my 5970 to an iMac via DisplayPort. I'm not using any other monitor in this setup. It seems that this problem only occurs when you don't have another display connected apart from via DP.

Did you find a solution to the problem?

I already answered you on different forum but in case, here also, I had exactly same problem Sapphire 5970 OC and iMac 27" and I found good and easy solution. When you disable in CCC the Catalyst A.I. the problem disappear. So now I can be happy with 2560x1440 full screen 3d gaming. Hope it will be helpfully for all of you also.

Disabling Catalyst AI means you are disabling crossfire, forcing the 5970 to only use one GPU. So it is probably a crossfire issue you are experiencing.

But if you don't see the issue when using Eyefinity... that is weird. Might want to report it to your GPU manufacturer and see if the have any support they can provide.

Thanks for the info radebcn. I tried disabling Catalyst AI and that did indeed fix the problem, however as Balthazor says, it does also disable one of the GPUs. It's weird that connecting another display to the DVI port fixes the problem, so not sure what the underlying cause is.

I reported the issue to Sapphire last week and have an open ticket with their support desk, but thought I'd try other avenues also. At the moment they say they are working on a fix, so fingers crossed...
