5970 Crossfire Eyefinity ?

If you want to run 5760x1200 Kyle seems to suggest 2Gb 5870s are the best choice.

The below review shows Batman and Stalker CoP absolutely murdering a 5970 @ 5760x1200.

The 5970 has 2Gb on board and it uses Crossfire tech, each GPU use 1 Gb and do not share. So the 5970 is essentially a 1Gb card in function or that is it has a 1Gb frame buffer.
If you're content to run a lower res or turn off a few details in very demanding games, it's doable. Personally, I don't find that acceptable. To each their own though.

4GPU eyefinity is broken and 2 GPU eyefinity is a dog's breakfast. In eyefinity I have tried 1x5870; 2x5870s; and a 5970. 1x5870 provides me with the best experience. Crossfire and eyefinity is bad because you need to keep your frames above 60 to not notice stuttering and lag. For example CFX and EF might give you fps in the 50s in Bad Company 2 but it feels more like the 30s.
Even the recently posted eyefinity6 review notes this issue in Bad Company 2
"With multi-GPU CrossFireX we needed to aim for higher framerates in order for the game to feel smoother. When the average framerates were down around 30-40FPS, the game felt choppy even though the framerate was at 30FPS. We found that by keeping the framerate higher, the game smoothed out and the choppiness was diminished."
Note that he says the choppiness was "diminished". It is still there between 60 and 90fps but not as noticeable. I really think more needs to be made of this in reviews.
Also in other demanding games I've tried in eyefinity (Crysis Warhead, Far Cry 2) Crossfire is a stuttering mess.
I'm selling a 5870 and a 5970 because of this. What's the point of having so much GPU power when you have to maintain a certain level of fps for it not to feel too choppy. No point in having 40fps reported when it feels more like 20.
Single screen crossfire is very good but I guess that's because the frames are so high. Also not much point having crossfire for 1920x1200 when one 5870 is more than enough.

If you're experiencing poor mins and a fair amount of stutter with HD 5870 Crossfire on a single panel with something like an i7 @ 3.2GHz or higher, I'd suggest you go over your running back ground services. If you have a good deal of those polling your system they can cost you greatly in min FPS and smooth play with Crossfire.
This fellow actually had that happening to him with a single HD 4890. The culprit was a back ground app.
