5950 or 6800 nu

I need a new card and don't want to spend too much, so i'm looking at the 5950 with 256 meg ram or a 128mb ram 6800nu, Which to buy and why?

reasons you might ask?
5950s are rip offs they cost like 380 bucks
and 6800 non ultras are only 260 bucks on newegg

5950's have 8 Pixel pipelines
6800 non ultra 12 pixel pipelines

and 6800 series can support SM 3.0 Rendering path

They're not even 8 PP, if I recall correctly they were a 4X2 Architecture which could do 8X0 for special purposes like Z-Stencils.. (Not sure bout the last part).

hmmm a 5950U for 150 bucks would be a wonderful price

anyways..depends on how much u are paying for them.. a 6800 for around 280 is a good price..a 5950U around 140-170 would be a good price too..

I'm with them- get the 6800, or even the 6600GT. The only time the 5950 will do better is with a setting that requires 256MB of RAM, and the games that can take advantage of that will tax an FX way too much to ever run at such high settings.

6800nu's are faster than a radeon 9800 pro with 256mb of ram and 256bit.

I'm trying to find a review I just read recently (an old review, nonetheless) in which the 6800 owns everything else (66GT & 98XT), until you start running AA & AF at high resolutions. At that point the 128MB becomes a brick wall, the 6800 and 6600GT run similarly, and the 9800XT climbs past both of them.

9800XT climbs past the 6800? Memory limitation or not, the 9800XT is no match for a 6800 even with 512MB texture buffers. Try that 9800XT on Far Cry 1600x1200 2xAA 2xAF max quality settings in drivers.

yeah i've seen the 5950's for around 180, but the 6800 go for a bit more, between 220 and 250. I'm just trying to get a perspective on the performance differences
