5900se same as 5900xt?

I thought I read somewhere they were basicly the samething. if not what is the differece between 5900se and 5900xt?
 
You might have the model names confused, its part nVidia and ATi (nVidia made the 5900 model, and ATi use the SE and XT extensions). An SE is usually a cheaper model, but to be cheaper its normally throttled (in terms of clock speed and pipelines), while the XT is the all-out model, which offers (usually) the best performance of that model.
 
I know that ati also has a se ad XT model, nvidia also makes these models but they are both lower end nvidia cards, and from what I gather they are the same. I just wanted to make sure because I was intereested in flashing my 5900se to a 5950 ultra, I have read of people doing this with the 5900xt but have found nothig as to wearher is can be done with the se model

not exactly, nvidia does use the XT but its doesnt mean its the all out model. its a lower end one.
 
I own a 5900se and the only difference I've seen is that the core speed is 10mhz higher than the XT (XT=390mhz, SE=400mhz). I flashed my card to a modded 5900XT bios and I suggest you do the same. 5950 bioses only cause problems and dont increase performance over a modded bios as they have worse memory timeings and try and use a core voltage the card simply will not support. I currently have mine at near 5950 clocks (mines @475/908) and I improved my 3dmark 05 score form ~900 to 1268. I'll get you a link to those bioses in just a second.

Did they use different mem types on the 5900XT's becuase my mem will only go to 716mhz? I'd like to get it higher.
 
they are the same, I belive I had a 5900 se and my friend hada 5900 xt and we got basicly the same fps so yeah
they are the same imho

I went to the link and looked at the different bios, what does throttling set mean?
