I currently have an XFX 5900 for a video card, while performance has been great up until recently I beleive its time for me to upgrade... I'm currently looking at spending $300 tops..

Right now im leaning towards the Leadtek 6800 gt .. Seems like a great buy.. great heatsink, could apply some artic silver to it and overclock to above-6800ultra speeds..

I've been out of the game for a bit so my knowledge of the current video card generation is a bit lacking. I'm also looking for a video card for a friend of mine so he'll probably get whatever I get.

Main games I play are Battlefield, Doom, UT2k4.. and Battlefield 2 once it comes out!

I appreciate any recommendations!

For 300 dollars the 6800GT is a great choice, if you can spurge some more money their are two other routes. The first route it not much diffrent but I am sure most will agree, get a BFG 6800GT. The other route is to get a AIW X800XT.

Just wait for like three weeks.
The next generation from Nvidia is almost here and when it arrives prices on the current generation should fall.

you can flash the 5900 to a 5950 utlra. :D

no actually i can't.. I modified a few rom's but never could get any of them to work correctly with my card. While i was doing that i indirectly taught a few people how to flash theirs. Pissed me off, I tried for like 2-3 weeks, flashing and modifying every rom I could find..

Really new cards are coming out? Kinda pisses me off its not sooner... got a buddy of mine that needs a video card to complete his computer system.. it would be nice to get him off of mine finally.

i would wait 4-6 months and snatch the refresh something like a 7800gt and the extra time will let you save the etra 100 bucks you will need but the card will last you a year longer! trust me i went from a mad mad overclocking 5900XT 520/975! to a below average 6800GT (sig) and i think it was way not worth it i should have waited and hit this refresh :(

no wait 2 years for the ultra new cards. jk....just playing off the "wait till later" bandwagon that makes sense some of the time.

I say, buy now and buy the GT. I upgraded also from a 5900 to 6800GT.

Remember how long it took for 9800 Pro an higher cards to reduce in price after the X800 series were releasd? I say buy now unless you want to wait half a year.
