5900 Maximum core temp

Anyone know what the max core temp for a 5900nu is? There's a warning option in the drivers which defaults to 140C (!?!), but I'm wondering if it clocks itself down at a lower temp.

I'm having an odd problem w/ Far Cry where the game will basically stop (<<<1fps) and RivaTuner tells me my core clock has dropped down to 300MHz (desktop speed). Sometimes it just drops down and keeps going minus a few fps, but usually I get the "hang". If I ctrl-alt-del out of the game then switch back it goes back to normal for a while. This doesn't happen in any of my other games.

I'm trying to figure out what the heck is going on. I was playing it for hours last night w/o any trouble but today it's been having a lot of these freezes. I did make some changes to the display settings though, so I'm trying to figure out if my card is overheating or the game is just bugged. The highest I've seen it is 78C. The slot next the the card is full & staying that way (I'll go back to my Parhelia before I ditch my Fibre Channel...), so my ventillation isn't that good.

My 5900nu peaks in the 70s, but has never had a problem.

My brother-in-law has the Gainward 5900nu and it peaks in the low 60s. That's with 2 inlet fans to the case, and 2 outlet fans.

Even the high 70s shouldn't be a problem.

I'm thinking it might just be another strange issue with Far Cry. It does various other wierd things if I turn up the settings too high. I turned down the settings and played a bit w/o any problems. I'll just have to mess with it more.

Don't worry about your vid card...that Far Cry demo is causing all kinds of problems on a wide array of configs. Runs like ass on my P4 2.4c@3.1 9800np.

Not to high jack the thread BUT Far Cry does suck. Here is my post from another Far Cry related thread:

I'm quite disappointed with the Far Cry Demo. I could NOT get it to work on my 3 systems.

My main rig specs are in my sig.

The other systems have the same hardware except video card:

AthlonXP 3200+@2.53Ghz
1gb Mushkin LvL2 PC3500
Abit NF7-S V2.0
Geforce FX5900U / other system has FX5950.

The 2 AMD systems, all I could see was the HUD in the game.
My P4 system, the demo wouldn't even install.
