5900 gaming capablities?

With 512 mb ram. A slightly overclocked Sempron 2300+, and a Geforce 5900XT what would you say my gaming capabilities were.

Games like HL2, D3, and Farcry?

Be specific. Res? Quality? Average fps?

Well the 5900xt is a decent card except for the crappy and I mean crappy directx9.0 capability. On Doom 3 you will get more performance than on Far cry or Half Life 2 because Doom 3 is OpenGL but with the system you have I'd say you have mediocre gaming capabilities. Farcry like maybe 1024/768 and all medium smooth frames no aa or af, Half Life 2 1024/768 some medium some high most high maybe a little aa or af not both smooth frames. Doom 3 1024/768 high 2aa 8af smooth frames. You are CPU limited get another 512MB of ram and a 3200XP and you should be good.

Your 5900xt will run all those games fine.

However, you are lacking in the memory. Get another 512MB, especially for those games.

I was running a BFG 5900NU and it was playing HL2 fine at 1024x768

The important thing is to overclock your card, and you'll do fine.

Many, MANY 5900xts hit 5950 Ultra clock speeds with no effort at all. I mean, you WILL be able to hit 5950 Ultra *core* clocks with ANY 5900xt - no doubt. It's just the memory that may or may not hit 5950 Ultra performance levels. XFX brand 5900xts, especially, are know for killer memory overclocks - other cards....some hits, some misses.

Download the demos of the games you can. Thats the best way, try and see how it does.

I have a 5900nu and it runs everything I can throw at it just fine.(xp2700 2.17ghz).Doom,HL2,Farcry,NFSU 1 & 2,etc.
Listen to Fallguy on this one, download the demos and go from there.

I do plan to overclock the vid card and proc. I'll buy a gig of low latency ram in the near future.

your comp will do fine. I playe farcry on my mobility 9700 (~9600pro) at 1024x768, everything was really smove. I could even play many levels at 12x10. Provided, I have a more powerful cpu then you(p M 1.6), though my RAM is slower then yours(same size).

A Pentium M 1.6A is definitely faster than a Sempron 2300+.

Even my overclocked Sempron (1.8GHz @ 400MHz FSB and PC3200 memory) is a bit weak compared to my P-M 1.6A.

That's possible. But they use different rendering paths.

But all that really matters is that you enjoy the game and that it plays smoothly enough.

Probally cause your 5900 is using a 8.1 render path but as long as it looks good enough for you more power to you.

Agreed, I put my Flashed 5900U to 5950 in my old kt266 box and short of a few frame rates and slower HD's They both look good. That card was and is schweet !!!
