I just setup a new system, running windows x64 and the latest 10.6 catalyst driver

I have not loaded any games as yet, however I tested my card using furmark to see how well my setup cooled my card under stress.

All i got when doing a stability test was screen flickering and a brown screen every now and then. Could this be a problem with the card, driver, or furmark?

Will try and install a game soon to see how it goes however im worried cause this is my 2nd 5870.
 
So I have a feeling my Swiftech Komodo heatsink thermal gel pads are not working that well

The MEMIO & VRM get upto 120 degrees on load, so im guessing that is the reason why

I will put some paste on it, apparently takes off 20 degrees

Also under load the 5870 makings a whine, sounds like a capacitor. hope this goes away when i fix the cooling

If it is running at 120 degrees and putting paste on it takes of 20 degrees, you will still have a major problem as 100 degrees is still way too hot.
 
yup

swiftech are mailing me the proper screws for this heatsink. so im hoping to get much lower on load. think around 50-60 is achivable

they provided spring loaded ones which does not let the heatsink touch the vrm's or memory without applying excessive force and potentially bending the pcb a bit
 
anyway received the screws

all went well cept i now have a feeling i killed the card as the screws on the x bracket were touching the board and caused it to short circuit?

cant believe it as this is my 2nd 5870 :/
 
so all fixed
my DispIO and VRM is about 50 degrees under load

however my MemIO & shader goes upto 105 degrees on extreme burn mode on Furmark
is this a safe temperature still?
