5870 Quadfire user video!!

Remember, Eyefinity currently does not support CrossFire, therefore only 1 GPU is accelerating 3D with Eyefinity right now.

lol most games got slower with the fourth card and thats running an insanely overclocked i7. really there is almost zero point in trying to run that much gpu power for any single monitor. hopefully they will get their crossfire eyefinity issues straightened out soon. IMO they should have never released the cards without that being addressed first.

Agreed! really hoping they get that fixed before nvidias line. :)

Glad you guys dig it!

Yup, looks like I'm gonna go Tri-Fire once the 5870x2 or 5970, whatever it's called comes out. Scaling to 4 gpus does not look worth it at all.

Fuck they're tanky. I hope they release some drivers to update the poor scaling.

Niiiiiiice work

Drivers ain't gonna fix some of the scaling "issues"... Looks more like the CPU is the limiting factor with 4 cards.... crazy.

Looks cool I just don't like the idea of having to use Nvidia NF200 chips in a motherboard to run ATI Videocards. Just seems like it's asking for trouble.

thats why I almost have to laugh at people that dont have an overclocked i7 and are contemplating running a 5870x2 or faster setup below 2560x1600. people need to stop and realize that is theoretically more gpu power than FOUR 4870 cards. having two 5870x2 cards is like having over EIGHT 4870s in your system so even with an i7 you will still be massively bottlenecked at or below 1920 and probably even at 2560 for most games. that guys numbers clearly showed that as performance went down in almost every case when adding the fourth 5870 even with his insanely overclocked i7.

Good thing you are just some random person on the internet and they didn't listen to your opinion. :)

Lol iknowrite. People with extra money waste it on stupid things. This guy at my work just bought 24" rims and a m5! Waste of a daily driver.

I hope I'm not that guy.. Just want to show you guys the stats so you can decide for yourself what to get.. I'm just the puppet.. I'll get rid of these soon.. Just want to help my brothers in hardware out. :)

And it's appreciated ;)

I'm still personally waiting for Nvidia's release before I decide... and I'll be most likely sticking with only 2 cards whichever platform I go with... with 5870's being $350 / whatever.. that's $700 just on GPU's...

But @ 2560 x 1600 you need something fast, I've been running on a GTX260 which is barely enough depending on the game.

Thanks a bunch! Did you see the eyefinity bench.. at 6144 x 1152
That is a high res, but even using one gpu for dx11 at 17fps, still not bad for that resolution.. as where default settings of 1024 x 768 were 130 fps

Mmm, I thought Eyefinity works with Crossfire but only one card will be used for displaying to 3 monitors?

You can still use Eyefinity with all 3 cards pushing the display to all 3 monitors with 1 card outputting the video. You can't split the monitors between 3 or 4 cards is how I understood it.

Nope, when in EF only the card doing the EF is working. To have all cards pulling their weight they can't render to an EF group. Only traditional multi monitors like Supreme Commander. ATI specifically says they are working on it.

i think hes cpu limited with quadxfire using 1920x1080.. hes not even pushing the games graphically either.. 4xAA with 16xAF.. the heaven benchmarks cool to see.. but other then that the rest of the reviews not realistic at all..

thats like using a hand push lawn mower to mow 10 acres instead of a riding lawn mower.. lol..(yes its almost 4 in the morning and im tired so thats all i could think of).. not only is the 5850 far faster then the GTX 260.. the 5870 is faster then anything nvidia has out right now on its own without even using crossfire.. :p

i really dont see a performance boost coming from the GT300.. they have abviously put way to much effort into cuda and far less into gaming with these cards.. and i dont think the price tag will even warrant what little performance gain it have over the 5870 if it even does..

but then again i guess you could say my opinions biased since im switching back to ATI soon.. well unless nvidia pull's their heads out of their buttocks and actually creates a driver worth a damn that i dont have to keep updating every 2 weeks because they screwed something else up..

Is it me? I only seen 4xAA on the tri fire heaven benchmark not 8xAA..............

correct.. all the benchmarks were done with 4xAA.. which in the real world gaming is called a failed benchmark.. but i guess we cant get everything we want in life..

I have the extreme numbers as well.. Was just trying to get an overall user point of view.. So many people with 1680 x 1050 monitors still that I did'nt want to outcast everyone.. I do have a high res monitor for extreme benches, which I'll post soon.. I really just wanted everyone to see the scaling on a consumer level.. I think for extreme enthusiasts, 3 5870's would be the overall system. What do you guys think?? Actually, even 2 would be great!!

i understand that.. but anyone dumb enough to be using quad crossfire or even tri crossfire.. or heck even crossfire at all with 5870's at 1680x1050.. are either completely brain dead or just have way to much money to waste..

but what id like to see is what the heaven demo at 2560x1600 with everything maxed out(including AA) on quad crossfire would look like.. i havent seen any numbers for that yet..

but i have a feeling if you run all those benchmarks again at 2560x1600 you will see the quad crossfire numbers scale much better..

But why not, I thought we lived in a perfect world.:p

if this was a perfect world.. ya better shoot me now.. :p

thank you for sharing your dumb opinion too then, troll

I'm not trolling, I'm telling you that what you said was basically retarded. Please explain what thought process led you to the opinion that AMD should have delayed a major release by months, just so they could include a minor feature that has implications for maybe 5% of users.

If you had said something like "IMO that feature should have been ready at launch" then OK, that would have made a little more sense, but you didn't.

BTW nice edit

wtf are you talking about? how is "IMO that feature should have been ready at launch" any different than what I said which was "IMO they should have never released the cards without that being addressed first."? eyeifinity really needs more than one 5870 to push it on very high resolutions so having crossfire support working for it seems like it would make sense to me.

Thanks for sharing ! Hopefully once everything is sorted we can have EF using Tri-Fire with a 5870 + 5870x2. It would be interesting to see the same tests with Gulftown as well even though most software won't utilise the 6 cores/12 threads, you may have some more headroom for mhz given the early results that are out !

It's completely different and now you're just being intentionally obtuse about it. I'm asking you why you think AMD should have stopped their entire product launch over the inclusion of CF eyefinity support? (Which you said in your opinion is what AMD should have done)

I'm not saying it isn't necessary for some people. I'm just asking what in the world makes you think the fact that it is necessary in some cases would warrant them halting an entire generational product launch over it. It isn't that big of an issue. A single 5870 will play all but a handful of games perfectly smoothly even on an eyefinity setup.

I know what I was trying to say so whether you realize it or not it is the same thing and its purely semantics. why are you so concerned enough to jump into a thread by taking only one part of my comment just to call my opinion dumb? if you dont think having crossfire working for eyefinity is important then thats great and its your opinion. its not like I started a thread bitching and moaning about it. it was simply part of the topic and is mentioned in the video so I said what I thought about it as part of my reply.

I have already explained to you why I thought that crossfire should have been working at launch or addressed before they released the cards. see it is the same damn thing. lol. eyefinity and using huge resolutions is one of ATIs major talked about features so I would think that the crossfire issues would have been ironed before release. nothing more, nothing less so move on.

No, what you said was in your opinion no one should have been able to buy a 5870 because some people couldn't crossfire their eyefinity setup. That's different than saying that CF eyefinity should have been working before release, because OK maybe it should have but it wasn't and they released the cards anyway. To do otherwise wouldn't have made any sense to them as a company or to 99% of the people who bought one of the new cards.

I never said CF eyefinity wasn't important. I just said that your opinion stating AMD should have waited on this one feature to be ironed out before releasing this generation of cards was "dumb". And again if you had just said "IMO it should have been ready before release" I could have agreed with that. I would not however state that since it wasn't, AMD should have just called the whole product launch off, packed up their shit and went home.

I wonder if this is what is delaying the 5870x2 so much, I honestly expected more info on this card by now, but we've had diddly so far.

I'll do a high res bench for you guys as well across four cards to see if it scales better, but from what I remember, It was about the same as using 1080p res.. Thanks so much for the input!! : )

Yes, I agree 2 are great thx for benchmarking this. I knew you were just doing 4-quadfire for demonstration benchmarking purposes also as it hits a cpu wall over 3x. Ignore all the captain obvious and johnny spot on's from [H]. (yes capt obvious we know 4x quad is a waste. ):D

I do Crossfire and SLI on 1680*1050...

the answer is simple.
Why? Because there are still plenty of games out there that still not max out with 60fps...

if you think its not worth it its your opinion, but reality is, we just want to max out what we want for every eye candy we can get..

especially to Crysis lovers like myself here.....
