Hi Folks,

Well, after reading all the updates the last few days and finding out that the NDA is being lifted up from the 5870x2. I am leaving the Nvidia camp and going back to ATI after a 7 year absence (Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB) I am moving from a GTX275 (SLI) to either a single 5870 or a 5870X2.

How does everyone feel about going from the 275 (SLI) to either a single card or the X2 solution?

Thx

I went from GTX280SLI to a single 5870.

Love the idle power and triple monitor support (I still cant use it, waiting for the DVI-DP dongle).

But definately not an speed upgrade. I actually think my GTX280SLI was faster most of the time.

I also really miss the GTX280 killer CUDA for transcoding.

We dont yet know everything about the "X2 solution" which is rebranded to 5970, other than it doesn't use 5870 clockspeeds, it's closer to the speeds of a "5850x2" there is however rumours that this is because they've hit the rated power rating of a PCIE card (300W) but will allow users to overclock at their discretion. If that hits a sort of 5870x2 speed then might be great high performance choice. Especially if it comes in cheaper than 2 5870s which are sky high price wise and impossible to get right now.
