So I have 3 30" monitors setup as a 3x1 eyefinity group.

My brand new dell 3008 wfp keeps going into power save mode randomly for like a second or two. It is connected via the displayport connection. My other two monitors are dell 3007's connected via DVI. They have no issues.

All power saving features are set to never in windows 7.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I have brought this to AMD's attention and hope to help get you an answer Rhyme!

when i disable the eyefinity group and go with 3 independent displays the problem goes away... but of course I can't enjoy my 3 monitor gaming experience...

3x 30's would truly be a beautiful thing to experience. i wish i had the space.

update:

the monitor still randomly goes black in independent mode.... just not as frequently as when it is setup in eyefinity.

To clarify, which driver version is being used?

And do you have the latest display INFs installed? Windows Update should pick them up, or use the included driver CD with the displays. The INF for my Dell 3007 says version 1.0.0.0 dated 6/1/2009, not sure what the 3008's version is.

Update to the latest drivers. This fixed my issue with displayport going into power save. My other symptoms were going into powersave at any UAC prompt.

Hey Rhyme, are you using the displayport cable that came with the monitor?

Yes. Brand new cable. I also downloaded the 3008 wfp updated drivers through windows update.

I'm not using EyeFinity at the momment, but I have a brand new Dell 2408 connected via the Display port; it's the lone monitor......but ocassionally it will go into power save mode as well, for no good reason.

It usually occurs at start-up as the computer cycles through the various screens, and will ocassionally do it on the desk top. I haven't seen it occur during gaming though.....yet.

I just thought it was normal????

I use a display port cable I bought from Blue Jeans Cable, so I don't think it's the Dell Cables at fault here.

I bought a new cable from monoprice.com but it won't get here for at least 4 days...

I don't think any big local chains sell displayport cables or I would just pick one up.

I have found Blue Jeans to be very reasonable and their shipping is fast and cheap.
My stuff has been on my doorstep in two days, essentially cross-country.
My DP cable is 10' and cost me 14 bucks........great thing about BJ is they will make custom lengths for you.

Just like to say that is one awesome setup 12Mpix...and nice work Kyle by helping and reporting this to AMD.

When you get this fixed-- you must post pics. Its, like, a requirement of being an [H] member. Double so for a 30x3 setup. Stat.

picture quality sucks but you get the general idea.... imagine that but having the middle screen go black randomly....

I've just got to say, it's cool to see help threads about this. Sorry I can't help. :p

Cute kitty, alt-F4 required.

that is awesome. Have you tried switching the cable or going from DP to a DVI connection on the 3008.

I have a new cable on order from monoprice. I also spoke with dell about sending me a new cable but the guy from India seemed pretty clueless. He's sending me a digital cable... who knows if its displayport or another DVI... All he could tell me was that it was a "Digital Video cable assembly"

The monitor only goes into power save mode for about 2-3 seconds on the displayport connection randomly. Connected via DVI it does not happen.

Have you tried disconnecting one of the other monitors and connecting up the 3008 with DVI?

The monitor works fine when it is connected with DVI.... its just when it is connected to displayport. So... yes.

Well. I have bad news. I received the new monoprice cable today and it did not fix the issue.

So its either...

A) driver issue
B) port issue on the monitor
C) port issue on the XFX video card.

I don't really know how to attack this problem from this point. I could get a replacement monitor I suppose and see if it improves...

Kyle, any word back from AMD?

Nothing, sorry.

Using the Dell 2410s here, the DP attached monitor would wake up slower than the DVI, but it never went to sleep on me.

Dell is going to send me another 3008wfp... Should have that within the week hopefully...

If that doesn't work I'll go after XFX.... I can't seem to find a telephone number to call them for tech support. You can only open up a ticket on their website. I was expecting at least a 1-800 number to call. They must have it hidden away somewhere.

Anyone ever done an RMA through XFX? Will they do advance exchange?

Ok so I got XFX on the phone.

They had me try a few things..

1) Boot windows 7 into safe mode and see if the black screen happens.
Answer: It does not. Windows 7 defaults to 800x600 and it had no issues with the monitor going into power save.

2) Use the system with only the 1 monitor plugged in connected via display port. I did this and I still had the monitor going into power save randomly.

3) Change resolutions from the default 2560x1600 to a lower resolution. When I changed it to 800x600 I no longer had the blackouts. As soon as I bumped it up to 1680x1050 the blackouts started occurring. At 1280x800 I did not get any blackouts.

At this point, the XFX guy did not think it was a driver issue. He thought it was either going to be the monitor or the card. Once I get the replacement monitor in I should be able to narrow it down further.

He also wanted me to change the display settings on the monitor to 1:1 so there was no scaling.. It made no difference.

Not sure if you tried this, but can you use display port on the other monitors, and use DVI on the center one? Would be a good way to find out if it's the monitor or video card acting up.

Only one monitor has display port... the other two only have dvi connectors... the dell 3008wfp works fine on dvi.. its just displayport has issues.

I'd have to think that this eliminates the monitor, cable and video card physical connection as the culprits. It follows eyefinity, not the hardware.

Me thinks AMD has some splainin to do.
