^Title:(

I just got a 5870 crossfire setup up and running and its acting up big time. I started off with some TF2 in eyefinity at 5760x1080 fine, it seemed kinda jittery but was around 130 fps constant with tons of aa. That was ok. Then I tried Crysis on one screen at 1920x1080 and bam, I'm greeted with what looks like some kind of asynchrony between the two cards, everything is spazzed out and flickery, the best way to describe it really is that it looks like my 5870s got in a big fight and are jerking back and forth trying to tear the screen apart. I searched online for 5870 flickering issues but none of the issues I found seem as serious as mine. Putting on vsync doesn't fix it, but makes it a bit better. Putting it in windowed mode makes it run perfectly however?! I don't know what to do right now, and I'm kinda wishing fermi was out, just so I could spite these silly 5870s for not cooperating. I tried 9.12, 9.12 hotfix, beta 10.1; I made sure it wasn't my PSU by hooking one of my old PSUs up to my Corsair HX620 - still the same thing. I'm mad and outta options right now. That it works in windowed makes me think its a driver thing, but I haven't see this happen to anyone else at all.

problem summary: screen in all 3d games looks like crossfire couldn't decide what resolution to render; it flickers rapidly between full resolution and what looks like a 75% resolution and horizontal tearing and banding is visible; problem occurs at 1680x1050 and 1920x1080 but not below only when displayport is used, everything works fine at 1776x1000, and when disabling crossfire, going into windowed mode, and using a dvi cable instead. occurs with all driver revisions between 9.12 and 10.1 beta; issue is likely not PSU related because windowed mode is entirely stable.

Here's my system spec
phenom 965be stock
Asus M4A79XTD EVO
Corsair HX620
Sapphire 5870
Gigabyte 5870
- both vanilla
WD 1TB HDD
3xdell p2210h displayport-dvi-dvi

EDIT: Update: well displayport strikes again. I disconnected the monitors and tried a single monitor in DVI, voila, it worked. Single 5870 - no displayport funny business - Double 5870 - displayport goes wonkers. I'll try getting a new cable, but damn. Stupid thing sucks!
EDIT2: some tags for the unlucky few that might also have this problem "5870 crossfire problems" "5870 crossfire tearing" "5870 crossfire flashing" "5870 crossfire flickering" "5870 crossfire high resolution problem" "5870 crossfire displayport problem"

I had to return my asus 5870 because the dvi ports went bad. it seems like the hardware is rushed on these puppies. Which is bad because that's not always fixable through software. If you see my other threads, I ended up picking up two more xfx 5870s but through all the quirkiness, I ended up returning it all and going back to my, now quite boring dual 260s. But at least the text on my desktop is nice and crisp again, sli scaling actually WORKS and I don't have a different issue for each game. Everything just works, albeit slower.

I'm in the same shoes as you right now. Bored with my performance setup but don't have options. I did just upgrade my display and I must admit, I'm finding it A LOT more exciting then I thought I would. 47" is like the perfect size! Not too big, I can still carry it quite easily by myself, 1080p stretch over 47" is still pretty in-game. Immersion is even more crazy. I can webrowse from my bed. Lovin it. Gotta just do something to hold you off until nvidia gets off their ass and releases something already.

the biggest issue is that crysis has crap for crossfire support.. never did, even after all the updates to the game.. they pretty much half assed it and told nvidia and ATI to fix it them selves.. and seeing how as that happened i think ATI just gave up on the game just like crytek did.. you could try running vsync(or cap the frame rate to 60fps) in TF2 but i doubt that would fix it.. but its always an idea..

but on a side note ive seen a lot of people having issues with the sapphire cards the most.. maybe try swapping them in different slots and having the gigabyte as the primary or vise versa..

That's what I thought at first, so I rigged my 520W PSU to start along with my HX620 and just power my second 5870. Same darn thing. Sillier yet, crysis even works at eyefinity res in windowed mode, yet as soon as I try to run it on one screen at above 1680x1050 with displayport, the screen goes bonkers. My monitor is 1920x1080.

In think this has more to do with Crysis being a POS game than anything else.

Crysis = POS with Xfire....everything else runs fine for me.
