It seems the retailers stopped gouging prices after fermi. AMD may not have done an "official" price drop, but it sems the retailers are going back to MSRP for these cards!

You can get a XfX one for $289.

Yeah the non-reference versions of 5850s are cheaper now, using cheaper PCBs that don't allow for voltage tweaking. On the other hand, even without overvolting you can probably still overclock them to slightly-below-5870-at-stock-clocks speeds. Getting just below 5870 performance for under $300 is pretty sweet.

Search Bing for "tigerdirect cashback" and they have 12.3% cashback at the moment. They also have a Diamond or Visiontek for $309.99.

Brings it down to about $271.86 shipped.

Newegg also has 3% Bing cashback, so that'd be about $281.29 for an XFX card. ;)

Been debating on that newegg card. Any MAJOR difference between it and the reference card? Seems like the 5850s have been out of stock forever.

Original MSRP was $269 and that was about six months ago. So, yeah, still gouging. Just not as much.

What choice is there but to pay the $30-50 "where the hell is Nvidia" tax.

Still, I own one and it's a nice card. Good overclock on mine. I can just get it up to 5870 stock performance so its hard to complain.
