5850 low 3d mark score?

I just got my new system the other day and thinking my 3dmark 06 score is way low.

3dMark06 Score = 14682

CPU - Phenom II x720 2.8Ghz
Mobo - Gigabyte 890GPA
VGA - XFX HD 5850
Ram - 2GB DDr3 1666Mhz
PSU - 650w corsair tx
HDD - WD black 1TB

everything is new, including my windows install. Any ideas why my scores so low?

Your CPU is what is holding you back. 3dmark06 scores will reflect your CPUs performance more than anything.

What are your individual CPU/GPU scores like? Have you tried running Vantage instead?

Sounds about right ... CPU bottleneck.

Try using Vantage, 06 is way outdated.

I thought my CPU might have caused a slight bottleneck, but this much? I hope my games aren't going to see a hit like this...

Hmmm yeah that CPU score is pretty low but not sure what to expect from a 2.8Ghz phenom really...

Here are the results for what is now my LAN rig. It has dual 4850's which is similar GPU power to a 5850 but the CPU is a Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz

And to give you an idea just how big of a difference the CPU makes here is the EXACT same rig after it was upgraded to a Q9650 @ 4.4ghz, same videocards and everything.

That P11391 score is still CPU limited. I get nearly the same overall score as that on my stock-speed i7-920 with a 5770.

I don't think it really matters though. Games with a 5850 and a Phenom II X3 would still outperform your system with a 5770. I wouldn't worry too much about synthetics, it's the real performance that counts.

Yes, that's only the overall score. I know the graphics score from the 5770 isn't as strong as that from a 5850. However, a 5850 is complete overkill for a 1440x900 monitor such as mine. The 5850 would have been a near-perfect match if my monitor were 1920x1080.

I'm in a similar situation, I chose the 5770 for my brother with his 1440x900 resolution, and the 5850 for my 1080p res.

My GPU scores look good right? and the x3 720 BE shouldn't bottleneck me too much in real life performance. I should probably OC it though, it's developed with that in mind.

Yes, at 1080p the 5850 is much less likely to be CPU limited.

And 3DMark Vantage, at the Performance (P) preset, uses a resolution of only 1280x1024 - roughly equal to 1440x900 - by default. And if you choose a GPU that is complete overkill for your monitor, what happens there is the refresh rate of the monitor would then limit the graphics performance.

I would say try to unlock your CPU, but you cant on that board. Just OC it.
Either way, 3dmark is not how you test your setup for games. Games are

Definitely OC the cpu and you should see increases in your score. this is [H], where stock speeds aren't good enough.
