What would be the performance difference between these? I'm not concerned with power usage or noise. Thanks!

I checked out this Tweaktown review of the 5830 CF. The card that you can compare the 6950 to most the 5870. Looks like the 5830 CF did edge out the 5870 on performance. Even so I do not think the performance is worth it over the 6950. A 6950 will provide similar performance and you do not have to rely on crossfire that can be buggy at times causing less performance.

Are you actually looking to buy one of the two setups atm? 5830s got driven up due to the bitcoin madness, so I doubt you will find a fair price on those. You can get a 6950 1GB for around $220, so that makes even more sense to go for that instead. The 5830 was never an eye catcher when it was released and it lacked performance being an 5800 series card. Its even more apparent now with the 6800 series.

Well I already have both. I currently have 3x5830 and 1 6950 mining coins. I'm hitting the end of return time on them and I'm pretty sure bitcoin is gonna flop over once the exchange opens back up. I bought the 6950 locally so a return will be much easier than sending the 5830's back to newegg. The 6950 was 280+tax. MSI 6950 frozer something or other.

If the 5830 will be close to performance in BF3 I'll just get my 300$ back from fry's.

All the rave about BF3 is its use of taking PC graphics to the next level. That in part comes with using DX11 and its biggest change with tessellation. The 5800s are weak compared to Nvidias offerings and the current 6900s when it comes to tessellation. That could easily be a Achilles heal when it comes to playing with 5830s in my opinion. Here is a comparision using Unigine Heaven. The 6950 gets roughly twice the performance of the 5830 thanks to the tessellation improvements and additional SPs. Even though the 5870 performance around a 6950 its still beaten by 40% in the test. Unigine Heavy takes tessellation to the extreme, but we still do not know what level it will be at in BF3.

What resolution are playing at? You maybe better off returning both and just going for a 6950 1GB off the egg. Its the best card in the price range to get imo. There is lots of options for you atm. I just do not know the best between restocking fees and future proofing. Are the 5830s still going for a good buck? Maybe you could sell them on ebay and even make a buck off of them.

I run 1920x1200. I'm leaning on returning the 6950 and keeping 2x5830 and just selling them off if BF3 won't play on high settings with them. Hell one 5830 beats the GTX260 they replaced.

6950 is a better choice to keep. Returns to newegg are simple if you call and they'll generally send you a free shipping label as well.
