I picked up a 5830 to mine bitcoin and I can't keep my computer from hard locking up. I purchased a new GX750W power supply and it still locks up with both cards at stock speeds. Could lack of power be causing the issues?

System is :

2500K@4.4
5830
6950
SSD
1xHDD

also. I have the side of the case off with a fan blowing into it so temp is not a problem. Temps are <75C.

Who's 750 powersupply is it? If it is a good brand, chances are slim that it is that,

I am running a PP&C 750W Silencer with an unlocked, slightly overvolted and overclocked 6950 with an overclocked 5830 mining and it's no problem.

I also have a $35 650W power supply running dual 6970's AND another 5830 (three cards) just fine. The 6970's are undervolted at stock speed, and the 5830 is overclocked. The 5830 is on another system/motherboard so some of the power is coming from the 220W power supply powering that mobo. Basically I have a cheap ass P/S powering two undervolted 6970's and most of an overclocked 5830 so I think you are fine. :p

I can't want for the next difficulty increase or two so I can get rid of these cards and other systems I have mining. My poor AC can't keep up.

edit: well, your P/S may be crap. "cooler master" basically means nothing. The 750W I have in my main is a quality unit. The 650W I got was cheap but may be pretty decent for the cost (it's pulling 630W from the wall 24/7 for the past week.)

Cooler Master doesn't describe generally great quality like "Seasonic" etc. would. They've had some good units but they've also had some really bad units. If you have a multimeter handy, test your rails and lines. Generally, power issues lead to reboots/shutdowns rather than hardlocking, but it's possible. Are you getting a BSOD? Error messages? Just hard locks/unresponsive black screen? What exactly is the issue? I'd consider running your CPU at stock settings too just to rule it out of the picture for now.
