5770 Overclocking

So I just got my 5770 today, and since it's not quite as good as the 4890 I decided to OC it. I used auto-tune (which took about 45 minutes) and it set the clocks at 950/1435. I set the fan to 45% and the card is idling at 32c. That's not terrible is it?

Also, was it a bad idea to OC it so soon?
 
No and no, though I doubt it's stable at those settings. Run FurMark or 3DMark to be sure, check for artifacting.
 
I ran Furmark for 10 minutes. No artifacting or anything. Temps reached 73c, which seems high to me, but Furmark is pretty demanding.
 
Ran Furmark on my 4850 and temps got to 82c before i shut the program down.Your video card is clocked way higher than mine, so 73c may not be to bad.And the 5000 series is supposed to run cooler.
 
Looks like I'm idling at 29c now. Not bad imo. (That's lower than my CPU temp ://)

Particularly impressed by your memory clock. You have nothing to worry about.. your 5770's overclock is well above the average, as well as your temps with the v1 cooler.
 
The auto-tune tends to overclock the ram farther than it can run stable. If you are feeling risky, you can flash to the Asus bios to unlock the voltage control as well as increase your maximum possible core clock. I am running 2 at 1 Ghz in Crossfire right now.
 
So what's a safe OC for the 5770 with v2 cooler, assuming no volt tweaks?
 
I lowered my memory clock to 1420 just to be safe. The weird thing is that I'm not seeing really any FPS increases at all with the OC much less upgrading from an 8800GT..though I did see a ~20FPS improvement in CSS with just the 9.12 drivers instead of the hotfix.

You may be clocking the memory too high. From [H]:

We then started overclocking the memory and after each increase we ran a benchmark to make sure that the overclock took. This is because the Radeon HD 5000 series uses EDC (like ECC) on the memory were if the memory is clocked to high and starts throwing errors the video card tries to fix them and thus reduces performance. Therefore, the goal is to now overclock the memory until performance starts declining, then back it off.

That's certainly unusual. My OC overshoots the HD 4870 and gets within spitting distance of the 4890 in performance.

Oh yeah, and there's the memory safety switch mentioned above..
 
Ah, that makes sense. I dropped it to 1370 like the benchmark, we'll see what happens.

I upgraded from a 256mb 8800gt and I see a big improvement in CSS, BF2142, and BF2. I'm not sure if it is the extra ram (1GB versus 256MB) or the technology. I messed around with some overclocking and saw little to no gain in FPS.
 
Hmmm, on the CSS stress test (just because it's quick), I compared the 1370 clock vs. 1400 with DirectX 8.1. The 1370 got 221 FPS and the 1400 got 267 FPS. Looks like 1400 might be the best speed. (I only got ~240 with 1420).

That's a good, quick way to test it. Interesting. Did you change the volts?
 
Nope, I'm not brave enough to do it ;) I hope driver improvements lead to even better FPS.
