Which do I get? I'm building a new machine for my brother-in-law (gift from my sister) and just can't decide which to get. The 5770 has DX11, so if he gets a DX11 game, he's covered. But the 4890 seems to perform better at all the current games.

He primarily plays WoW, and will be driving a 24" 1920x1200 monitor. I'd like for him to be able to turn the eye-candy up and still maintain 30fps average.

I'm basing the build around the i5 720, btw.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

The 4890 plays wow on ultra at the rez very smoothly. I use one myself. It is the more powerful card.

By the time DX11 titles are even sorta common we'll be on a new generation of video cards.

4890 if those are the two contenders. Yea the 5770 is new and has some new fanged tech attached to its name but the 4890 is faster.

Awesome, thanks for the quick replies. I'm glad to hear that the 4890 has no problems in WoW, and it's extremely helpful to hear from someone running the card currently. I think he'll be very happy with this build :)

Thanks again [H]

WoW ran with ultra max everything at 1920x1200 with my two 3870 Toxic cards.
60fps most the time 40ish in major cities with tons of people around.

I'd go with the 5770 simply because it uses a heck of a lot less power. Even my Radeon 4850 runs WoW at 1920x1080 with 8x AA (Max settings except Shadows) at silky smooth framerates. The game is not difficult to run.

I second the 5770. Unless he is hard core, he won't notice the slight bump a 4890 will get him. He will run lower temps and lower power usage. Have the option to use up to three monitors(the ultimate geek feature for WoW) and will have more longevity gaming with DX11. If done right will also get a free copy of Dirt2 and a lower price then what most 4980's are going for.
So ya, unless he is a FPS counting hard core, go 5770 all the way.
