I am considering buying this computer. I just don't have it in me right now to build another one and I want something out of the box. I have been reading through threads and reviews here and other places online, but I am not finding much on the 5770 at 1680 x 1050 resolution. The one linked shows a 240, but the new computers have the 5770 and BB hasn't upgraded their site with the information. What kind of framerates and how much AA can I expect to get? I have probably spent the last 10 hours reading before pulling the trigger on this. I would love opinions and any help I can get.

i wouldnt except to overclock with that system at all and im sure the power supply really baasic. im wouldnt go this route myself.

also what games will you be playing

I read those reviews. They talk mostly about 1920 x 1200.

I plan on playing MW2, BFBC2, the new Mechwarrior game when it comes out. I don't plan on OCing. I just want something solid that will give me as much of the eye candy as I can get. I want to know how much of the eye candy I can expect to get in general. I even read through this thread http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1480812 which I found from doing the search here.

I think the 5770 is great at 1680x1050. I just got one myself (XFX 5770), using a 22" at 1680x1050, and I haven't found a game I can't max out yet, BUT!!! I don't play crysis or MW2 so I can't comment on those games.

In COD:WaW I get close to 70 fps pretty much all the time with everything set to max. Other games are similar. IMO a 5850 would be overkill for that resolution but obviously that's just an opinion. If I could afford a 5850 I could probably afford a larger monitor as well.

here;s a good review with 1680x1050 res's for lots of games

a 5850 is by no means overkill for 1680x1050. anyway back on topic. i have a friend who runs MW2 fully maxxed out with a 5770 and it rusn theg ame smooth as butter. MW2 is not technical nor graphics ground breaking and a 5700 will do thie job.

If you read those reviews....@ 1920x1200 and they show the card performing at that level then I think you would be OK at 1680x1050

now if the review was at 800x600 then I could see the issue,...

No reviewer is going to review every single resolution for every single card.

the games you named off the 5770 will do great at... not over kill but it will allow you to max out MW2... BC2 on the other hand might need a little more hungry but you will be able to still bump the settings up if not be able to max them at that resolution

It's a frickin i7, he doesn't NEED to overclock. If he is going this route, as long as the games are smooth he isn't going to give a shit about 145fps, instead of 142.25.

Anyways OP, I run mine at 1600x1200(which is more pixels), in everything. Crysis is theonly game where in not consistently over 50fps. Although I do average 57 on High, 2X edge AA in the config.

Works pretty damn splendidly.

I play on a 23in. 1080p monitor with that card and can max out my games. Mass Effect 2, NFS: Shift, Dirt 2, Dragon Age. I use AA on some games, but not all. I would recommend that card if ur on a budget.

The 5770 is a good card. A friend of mine built a new PC during the Christmas holidays and I recommended him that card since he games at 1680x1050. I haven't heard of him complaining about framerates, and he plays all his games maxed out.

i have a 5770 clocked at 880, 1350

run MW2 at 2048x1152, with max settings, no AA
with crysis 2048x1152, high settings no AA

there are seconds where things get slightly choppy but that's only seconds. in hours of gaming so it's no big deal to me

Thank you very much for the responses. If I was sure about picking up this computer, then I wouldn't be asking these questions. I wanted to pull from others experiences. I know that a review posted in October doesn't necessarily apply totally at the end of January. Things change and new issues or bonuses are found with cards every day. When I give someone a negative answer and they get upset, I tell them that if they didn't want to know the answer, to not ask the question.

5 or 10 years ago, I wanted to get every single ounce of my computer and was obsessed with tweaking this or that. My needs are different now. I am turning 50 this year and I just want something that won't give me a lot of hassles and will work right out of the box. Something solid that I can power up and it just work.

I will think about it some more today and will probably check back here a couple of more times before I make my decision. So thanks again for responses and thanks for anything else anyone wants to add to this.

I play at 1680x1050 with my 5770. I've had no problems in Dragon Age, GTA4, GRID, L4D2, and quite a few other games. OC it a bit and it's plenty powerful at that res.

Well Im using the 5770 with a 24 in monitor and running it at 1920 by 1080 and haven't had an issue yet. Was running CS:S and Half life 2 maxed out without a stutter! I think it is a great budget card!
