You'd be sorely sorry if you bought either of those.

Go for a 9600pro/5900xt at least

i have about 100 dollors and i cant wait i need it a.s.a.p its not my rig its for a friend of mine well my cousin.any other ideas on good cards for cheap?

just tell your friend if he waits about a week (shipping time), he'll get a MUCH better card for his $100, than if he buys it right now at a chain/retail store.

like i said before, get a used 9800pro. theres quite a few refurbished 9800 pro's on newegg.

oh i see..will a 5700ve be any better? its a pny verto agp 8x 256mb

The 5700 Ultra was the only decent 5700 card. The VE is probably a 5700LE or something. Honestly I'd get the 9600Pro for $94. More well rounded card.

dude, you arent listening to me are you? like a said before, refurbished 9800 pro on newegg.

5700's arent good. a 5900xt is better. but why would you even get that when the 9800pro's so much better???

whatever, i give up. no point of helping when people dont listen. just get whatever card you want.

haha i hear ya i hear ya i just cant wait i need one like tomorrow cause his comp doesnt have onboard vid and he has school and crap so

so whats so wrong with this two cards? ..thanks so much for helping me out by the way
For starters, both of them will be a downgrade from the dead Ti4200.

Second, if you buy it at a retail store, they both will be severely overpriced - the same cards sold online will often cost half that much or even less.

this card any good CHAINTECH nVIDIA GeForce 6200A Video Card, 256MB DDR, DVI/TV-Out, AGP 8X, Model "SA62A-256" -RETAIL

The 9600pro would trounce that 6200 unless you can somehow unlock it to a 6600 and OC the ram and frankly you aren't looking to try that with time constraints, it's difficult to find a good one.

6200 (non TC), 6600, and 6600GT are all based on same core. You can probably unlock that 6200 and then OC it like crazy. It's not hard to do. It can be done in about 5 minutes.
