I currently have a P4 2.8 533 fsb cpu in my computer. I am seriously pondering getting a 3.0 or 3.2 ghz prescott @ 800 FSB. I am trying to figure out how much of a difference I will see with the upgrade. Here is my current system

Asus P4P8X flashed to P4P800
P4 2.8 533fsb @ 3.04
ATI 9700 Pro (378 core 340 mem) (AMD Heatsink)
1 GB Kingston Valueram PC 2700 (2-2-2-6)
Adaptec 39320-R SCSI card
2x Seagate 15k 36.7 GB SCSI HD Raid 0 (16 k Strip)
200 GB WD ATA 100
160 GB WD ATA 100

you wont see much if any...prescotts do better at higher clocks than northwoods. i would get some better cooling on yours and overclock it more. you'll save money.

I currently have the Zalman 7000 CU for cooling and my PSU is and Antec True 430. I can not seem to overclock it much more then what it is at which is pitiful, however I think half the problem is that I have a small case with 4 hd's 2 optical drives and with all that crap in it the airflow is worthless. the 3.04 ghz is the best oc i can get and still be able to run prine95 with no errors.

ok, if 3 ghz is good enough then my question is how much if at all is the performance difference between 800 fsb and 533 fsb. I have looked at all sorts of benchmarks but what do you guys think. I mainly game and some web design and modding my computer.

Going from a 533 chip to a 3.0E or 3.2E you will see a HUGE difference. The pressy HT 800fsb P4's have 1mb of L2 cache. If you plan on staying with s478 for a while, thats the way to go, but they are a beast to cool, some being as much as 103W at stock speeds.

Indeed, the jump from 533 to 800 will market you a HUGE difference, and they are much better to overclock

Here is my bench with a 3.2e at stock speed

Here is the same bench at 4ghz

You tell me if its worth it :) im super happy with my chip!!!!!

That value ram isn't doing you any good, get pc3200 and try to overclock some more before you upgrade.

I will be getting new ram with the CPU, right now that ram is not the problem, it is actually underclocked cuz i cant get thing thing up to 166 fsb. So anyway thank you all for your input i will be purchasing a 3.2 in the next few weeks with new ram.
