530J vs. 630 *fight*

I don't know... the datasheets list 84W TDP for each one. The 630's L2 cache is slower, so the 630 might have move overclocking headroom. But when your sample is one, you really can't count on anything.

I personally like the 3.4F GHz SL7PZ (84.0W, EM64T). :D Too bad I had to buy a server (for $480 shipped) to get it... or not since I sold the same server with a regular 84W P4 3.4GHz for the same price.

LOL thats hilarious ..... you could've made more..

Which is going to be the intel overclockers new best friend? Why?

I'm going to vote for the 530J since it's $75 cheaper, but the 630 runs significantly cooler so it might OC better...

630 runs *significantly* cooler?? Evidence?

I sold it to my brother. he just needed something faster than his old P4 2.4GHz (400MHz FSB). I wasn't trying to make money on it... I just wanted the 3.4F.

Apparently they run at a lower wattage, but don't run significantly cooler according to a review I just read on xbit. Just edited my first post.

My 550 runs pretty hot. Especially at the current clock speed I've got it set at.

Thanks for the link! Three things a 530J doesn't have: 64-bit support, SpeedStep functionality and 1MB more integrated cache. In general, adding more cache and SS is a joke or at least the premium hardly justifies these ineffective and superfluous features so it all boils down to 64-bit support. Unless you will be doing 64-bit related software development, mem addressing intensive programming or running crutial software that supports 64-bit, a 530J would do just fine. Besides, it could save you 50 bucks (for a top-notch HS like XP-120).

EDIT: Well, on second thought, buying a 64-bit support and less than 5% performance gain for 50 bucks might be worth it....so either way, you have nothing to lose. How much does a 3.4E cost? $220? ;)

hmm...im gonna sell my celeron D 2.66 and ABIT AI7 and get a P4 630 with an abit mobo...i live in Aus though so we get everything like a month later at best...:-(

Why not wait another 3 months and get the Celeron D 326 (2.53GHz), 331 (2.66GHz), 336 (2.8GHz), 341 (2.93GHz), 346 (3.06GHz) or 351 (3.2GHz) with EM64T (and a Celeron D 355 3.33GHz in Q4)?

If intel sticks to its usual plan of 1/4 cache rule (as far as the NW and Prescott Celerons, at least), those might have 512KB of L2 cache since these Celerons are based on the 6x0 series. Maybe that's wishful thinking and it will only come with 256KB L2, but Intel has never given the Celeron less than 1/4 the cache since the original Celeron 266/300 (not the 266A/300A) with no L2 cache. :p

Those Celerons are going to be Sempron killers. What is AMD doing by putting a premium on dual channel (939 only) and 64-bit? Making a really bad move.

Hrm, i know my 560J runs hot.

After about a solid day of burn-in my 530J is running @ 3.5 with load temps of only ~48C which is 5 degrees cooler than the load temps of my 520 which was running at the same speed. Only problem is this chip crashes after a few hours of load even at 3.5. Damn thing runs cooler, takes less power, but overclocks worse than my old 520!

Going to have to sell my 530J, use my 520 until 630 prices fall to near the ~215 they should cost, and then bite the bullet and buy a 630...

I think my puny 300W power supply might also be a culprit here though since my 520 ran at 1.33 volts stock and the lowest the 530J will go is 1.36. I think I'm really testing the outer limits of my power supplies capabilities.

hmmm....my Abit AI7 is socket 478....so i dont think intel will release the 64-bit celerons on this platform...which means im gonna have to buy a new mobo....
