When I got this burner last summer it was burning an audio cd in under two minutes. Now its taking 5. I've un and reinstalled nero, and really don't know what to do. Any suggestions would be great.
 
What speed is it burning at? Has that stayed the same? If your using cheap media, it may be burning at a slower speed.
 
I had the same problem! I chucked mine and for a 52x. As a last ditch, try to reflash the firmware. Also get a can of compresed air and let-er rip. I say the best thing to do...is to accept it is dead...wait till saturday (when there is an audience), take it outside in the middle of the street whilst screaming (and if possible...fake cry as much as possible). Scream that you saw it "burning cds" with your brother and you just cant trust it. Set it in the street and walk away sobbing. Stop a few paces away and turn angerly and yell "what did you say?!?!" at which point proceed to stomp it as hard as possible. Kick the shattered drive to the gutter and spit on it. Yell..."remember...this is where I picked you up!....it's where you belong!" then walk inside.

There are a few factors that come into play when your computer is burning a cd. Unless the cd you are burning now is the exact same one that you burned in 2 minutes I really wouldn't worry about it. djines brings up a good point about cd-media and different burning speeds. IMO, 5 minutes to burn a cd is nothing to complain about anyway.
 
Try updating your ASPI layers with ForceASPI . Worked for my DVD burner that was taking 30 minutes to burn a 4x disc that was known to burn in 14-15 (OS reinstall)...
[edit] also - is DMA enabled on the drive? Perhaps when you uninstalled Nero, if fubar'd that?..
 
In all seriousness, I did try all of the above suggestions and I was unable to get any success. Mine would burn at a maximum 8x and there was absolutely nothing I could do about it. In fact, I moved the drive to three separate computers and got the same results. My problem was compounded by the fact that the drive went bunk right as i changed to a new spindle of blanks. I thought the media was bad and went and bought a new high quality spindle. Same results. Also, I was burning the files from a network so i started copying files locally and then burning them. I was using nero as well....all other programs had the same results. Personally, i could tell that the spin up process was taking really long and the drive looked like it was trying random seeks all the time. Bet that dont happen to plextors huh ;)
