I have been experiencing some slowdown when enemies appear in games, and slightly long load times. My frames in Far Cry are goo (around 60), but when enemies come I seem to freeze for a second, although the frames stay over 40. I am unable to run AA in any game without a noticibly large drop in performance. My comp is decent (see sig), and I cant figure out what could cause this, except for maybe my slightly old 40gb maxtor 7200rpm HD.

Would another 512mb of ram give me a large performance boost? I currently have 2 x 256mb of pc3000 Kingston HyperX running at 215fsb (2-2-2-5). From what I can gather from the memory faq, I should get another stick of 512mb of the exact same ram, but the only thing I am worried about is that since it is a newer batch, it might not reach the same speeds as my old ram. I am not sure of my old ram is BH-5, is there a way to check it using software or model numbers and not removing the heatsink? Should I get another stick 512mb pc3000 to match, or grab pc3200? Not really sure how rare it is to obtain such good performance out of my current ram, but would I have a good chance of keeping these speeds if I get another stick of pc3000?
 
I have the same problem of little "glitches" once in a while. I can't seem to fix it for the life of me.

I'd imagine you'd have a better chance of keeping the 215 FSB if you used ram that was rated faster. You could gamble and get a stick of pc3000 and just hope it hits 215MHz, but I'd get something rated higher. PC3500 should be fine. Or you could gamble with some pc3200. Of course, your timings will have to be the same for all the ram, so make sure you don't buy a cas 3 pc 3500 dimm or the other dimms will all slow down. =)
 
I was in the exact same boat as you, and have the exact same ram. I got a 512 stick and it defintly helped in games.. especially in loading. I run 220fsb , but have Command Per Clock turned off on my ultra infinity. I suggest getting another 512, even if it means you have to lower your bus speed.
 
not to discount the fact that a 1gig stick of Kingston Hyper-x pc3200 (which is cas2) would help, i am puzzled a bit. isn't your board a raid board ? at least it has sata i think. i would either set up a raid array with another 40 gig maxtor, or even go with a single raptor on the sata side. this would help a lot as well.

No, but you need to install the 2x256meg ones on one channel, the 512meg one on the other.
