Hi All

Power supply ST50EF-PLUS-SC

combined +3.3, +5V 150W
combined +12V 36A/432W (peak 38A)
Input Voltage 90V ~ 264V (Auto Range)
Input Frequency Range 47Hz ~ 63Hz
PFC Active PFC (PF>0.95 at full load)
Efficiency >80%(at 20%~100% Loading)
MTBF 100,000 hours at 25°C, full load

So this is what I'm currently running GeForce 8800 GTS

Could you please recommend a reasonable upgrade if possible with this power supply... or options if not.

Thx

Budget?

Power supply ST50EF-PLUS-SC

Games well, mainly strategy, RPG and the odd FPS like Fallout.

Also, which 8800 GTS? There are 3 of them. Is yours the 320mb, 640mb, or 512mb model?

EDIT: I don't know the prices where you are, but is the GTX 460 out of your price range? Although rumor has it ATI will be launching an all new architecture starting with the midrange cards in a month or two - you might want to hold off for that.

wow that's sick the 460 only takes 500W?! lol the GTX 260 burns 600W from my rig

No the GTX460 is ok

But will my Power supply feed it?

Thx

I would still strongly consider waiting the two months to see what ATI has up it's sleeves. All the rumors point to the 6770 launching first - which will probably destroy the GTX 460 at the same price point.

The GTX 260 itself only uses like 200w under load, the GTX 480 is one of the very few cards to exceed 300w.

well those cards would only use about 160-180 watts so I am sure what you are talking about. even full system load for a typical pc with an i5/i7 quad and couple of drives while using gtx260 or gtx460 would only be around 350 watts or less.

Thanks All

If I wait for two months as seems good advice, I might as well wait four till January as the funds will be available for a complete new build around the New Lian Li PC- Q11 itx case.

The only cloud on the horizon is I've been having a few intermittent lockups which maybe graphic related and may force my hand.

Anyway at least I know my power supply is adequate for a GTX460.

Thx All.

Well, if you need an immediate replacement you could pick up something like a used 8800GT or 4850 to hold you over. Won't be much of an upgrade (the 4850 is a bit faster than the 8800GTX for reference, the 8800GT will be more of a sidegrade but won't be as vram starved as your 320mb 8800GTS), but it will be a bit faster and you should be able to find something like that very cheap.

Good thinking...

kllrnohj couldn't help noticing your sig list 3 Dell U2410 monitors sorry to put you on the spot are you happy with them?

I ask simply because it's a monitor I'm considering it's just in the Uk the price is like £465 this would be ok if I wait to January. I suppose the question I'm asking is if you did not own any would you be willing to pay this price?

Sorry to put you on the spot!

Thx
