Would an X-Connect Ultra 500w PSU ( http://www.ultraproducts.com/product_gallery.php?cPath=37&pPath=157&productID=162# ) be sufficient for a system around the following components?

Core2Duo E6600
Nvidia 8800GTX 768MB
Some form of sufficiently powerful cooling, either water or air

The reason I ask, is that I read this article here.. http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=36066 .. and noticed that the rig he was running had a far greater power drain than mine should have, being SLI and overclocked and whatnot - yet he never had any problems.

Thanks.

It might, but I don't suggest it. Using a shady psu (the original x-connect), with such a high draw can't be good. Even if it does, running a psu at high load for a long time is also not good.

What do you recommend, then? I'm fairly certain I'm going to be using a Thermaltake Shark case, which only has so much "view inside the case" area, rather than a full window - which I like. I'd like to have the cables glowing orange, against the contrast of the case's blue-lit interior, but I also know I want the PSU to be modular.

Most modular PSU cables seem like they'd be a nightmare to remove the connectors from in order to fit UV reactive orange sleeving over.. due to their modular nature.

Any suggestions?

A Corsair 620HX or Silverstone would be a good option. This place (http://deadeyedata.com -- and thanks to BBQ for telling me about it) has the Silverstones for less than Newegg. There's a 560watt Strider there for $85 that's >80% efficient, though I'm not sure it's modular....

Appreciate your input there, but yeah.. the problem isn't finding a modular PSU, but rather finding a modular PSU which I would be able to sleeve (preferably coming stock, without having to re-sleeve) the cables in UV orange.

Is it even possible to re-sleeve modular PSU cables?

Another option. If you buy direct from PC Power and Cooling they'll tack on a custom harness for you, all you have to do is ask. So if you know exactly what power connections you'll need for all of your hardware you could actually get a non-modular PSU... with no extra wires.

I would also like to know since I already own a FSP Fortron 500W Blue storm PSU and plan on building a rig with E6850 and 8800GTX. Will this be enough?

Also my PSU comes with only 1 PCI-E power cord. Does the 8800GTX come with an adapter Molex to PCI-E?

Thanks!
