I am looking at buying the nMediaPC 5000B case and was wondering if anybody knows of a receiver that can go in place of the LCD panel?

Can the MCE receiver be modded to fit? Not sure of the actual size of the MCE receiver relative to the size of this LCD panel. I would like to keep the HTPC all inclusive in the case and not have parts hanging outside of the case.

no reason you couldnt mod the microsoft reciever into that spot... i dont even know how much room you have, but at worst you take off the casing to the microsoft receiver and im sure itll get a lot smaller.

It seems to me, when I was searching for a case (settled on the nMediaPC 600), I came across a review/mod article where a guy did just as you are asking... modded the area where the lcd should go with an IF receiver for a remote he bought. He took apart the receiver that came with the remote and modded it into the case. I did a quick search, but couldn't find it. Keep looking... it's out there.

If you don't want to mod it you could just get a usb IR receiver and let it sit ontop of the case.

I have an IMON receiver/lcd with my media center pc case. It goes into a 5.25 slot but the actual board can be taken out and mounted elsewhere. The thermaltake case it was meant to be used with had its own built in slot for it to fit into. It also has a nice feature where you can hook it up to the motherboard power and turn on your pc with the remote.

From my research I see the MCE receiver has IR extenders which are smaller but can be used for mounting. I think this should give me the results I am looking for. Going to try mounting the MCE receiver somewhere in the case and connect the extenders to it and mount those in place of the LCD display.

I will let you guys know how it goes once the parts arrive. Thanks!

Thats not right; the extensions are for controlling a set top box and are IR emitters, not IR receivers. You will have to mount the main part of the controller somewhere up front.

yeah this is completely wrong!

Ahh. Well looks like I will be taking apart the receiver. I have the receiver right now, waiting on the case. From the looks of it, I think it will work, the receiver isn't very big.
