$500 Upgrade....

4gb ddr2 800
dvd drive
2 x 500gb 7200rpm drives = 1tb
22" lcd 1680x050 westinghouse

I have around $500 to spend on some upgrades... and I was wondering what would get me the furthest...

isn't that bit overkill for 22" GTX 260 216 55nm card would better buy. And what powersupply are you currenly using?

Not really any such thing as overkill, especially if you intend to keep a card more than 6 months. SLI or a 4870X2 could be argued as overkill. A single GTX 280 will just let you set things to max and not worry about them any further. That won't always be the case with a GTX 260 or 4870 1GB.

If you can, wait for the new parts from NVIDIA/ATI, since the current offerings are quite old, by GPU standards.

if your psu is up to it I would grab a gtx260(MSI $199) which should do very well at your native res. If not then maybe a psu upgrade would be in order. Like this, PC Power & Cooling S75QB 750W $99 after mir
