$500 Budget Gaming Rig Help

I have $500 to build a computer with. The good thing is that I have extra parts that will
hopefully let me get a decent rig for that price.

What I need:
* Processor (AMD)
* Motherboard
* 1GIG of RAM
* Case

I have always used Intel and have no idea what to look for in a AMD processor.
If someone could be so kind as to point me to the right direction I would really
appreciate it. This will be a gaming rig.

I disagree with their video card recommendation, but, meh, it's not a bad place to start.

If you wanted to take that info and build a whole system out of it, what you need extra is:
* Case and power supply
* Hard drive
* Optical drive (DVD+RW, preferably)
* Monitor, keyboard, mouse
* Operating system (WinXP for $$$ or Linux for free - but, then, you DEFINATELY don't want an ATI card)

Which, presumably, you have all of from any previous system.

You can probably save yourself a bundle by going for an nForce2 motherboard and an AthlonXP processor rather than Athlon64.
