50% GPU usage with CrossfireX?

I am using a 7770 Crossfire setup but I'm having some issues. I am using the 12.11 beta drivers with Crossfire Application Profiles installed.

I know Crossfire is working because I get 99% GPU usage on both cards in 3Dmark11 and 85% usage in Heaven 3.0, and my scores are doubled. However, in games, the GPU usage stays around 40%-50% per card and I see no improvement.

CPU usage stays around 60% depending on the game so it's not a CPU bottleneck. I've tried Blacklight Retribution, Dirt 3, Just Cause 2, and a gang of other games and this problem shows up in all of them.

It's probably a CPU bottleneck. CPU @ 60% doesnt tell you much.

With that i3, you could have 25% cpu usage and have a CPU bottleneck, if there was one thread maxxing out. Look at the exe for the game, if it is using almost exactly 25% or 50% or 75% then it is maxxing out 1, 2, or 3 threads. Hyperthreading also makes this even more complicated, and to a degree it is impossible to see the actual utilization when hyperthreading is enabled.

OC your cpu and see if it increases, if it does, its your CPU.

I'm going to have to agree with you guys about the CPU bottleneck. I forgot how hyperthreading affects how CPU usage appears in task manager. Thanks!

It could also be because you are running games with Vsync enabled.

But yeah, the CPU is definitely going to be a bottleneck if Vsync is disabled.
